We interrupt this heatwave to inform the UK that the Magnum has been named the nation’s favourite summer treat.

According to new findings from YouGov Omnibus, 28 percent of Brits chose the Wall’s must-have when quizzed on their favourite ice lolly.

It’s the older generation who are fans of the summer staple, as 42 percent of Magnum lovers are aged 65 or older.

In stark contrast, just 12 percent of devotees are 18 to 24-year-olds.

But, does the Magnum class as an ice lolly? Or is it an ice cream? Rather than selecting their answer from a set list, those polled answered in their own words.

The chocolate must-have came out on top in a list of the nation’s favourite 20 summer treats with the Fab, Solero, Twister, Feast and Calippo following closely behind. The Cornetto came in seventh place while the Nobbly Bobbly came in last.

The Fab – which turns 50 this year – has a younger fanbase while Soleros are consistently popular among the generations.

On the other hand, those aged between 19 and 24-years-old are more likely to choose a Twister on a hot summer’s day in comparison to 2 percent of those aged 50 plus.

It’s also interesting to note that Wall’s came out on top in comparison to competitor labels such as Nestlé in the survey, as four out of the five most popular lollies are made by the ice cream giant.
