Odeon confirms plans to reopen some cinemas from 4 December

Odeon has confirmed that it plans to reopen some of its sites after the second English lockdown ends on 2 December.

In a statement, the cinema chain told Yahoo: “We will be reopening some ODEON cinemas from 4th December, and are advising guests to check our website for details on their local cinema, as we continue to operate within Government guidelines.”

Cinemas can only reopen under the new Tier 1 and Tier 2 restrictions. Following a look at the chain’s website the sites you can currently book tickets at are:

England will return to a regional tiered approach when the current lockdown ends on 2 December, but more areas will face tougher restrictions than under the previous regime.

Indoor entertainment venues – such as cinemas, theatres, bowling alleys and casinos – will be allowed to stay open in Tier 1 and Tier 2 regions, but will remain closed in Tier 3 areas.

Once the national lockdown restrictions end on 2 December, more than 23 million people in England – 41.5% of the population – will be living under Tier 3 measures, where cinemas must remain closed.

After cinemas were reopened in July following the first nationwide lockdown, Odeon changed the opening hours at a quarter of its sites to weekend only due to the lack of new titles coming to screens.
