Normani was confident performing in her lingerie at the Savage X Fenty fashion show because she felt supported by the models and the pieces themselves.
Back in September, the former Fifth Harmony star took centre stage at the Barclays Center in New York and gave a high-energy body-popping dance routine to Sean Paul’s Get Busy while dressed in a matching bra and panties set accompanied by long gloves and tights.
Normani, who has been named the first-ever brand ambassador of Rihanna’s lingerie brand, shared in an interview with Vogue.com that it was daunting performing in so little, but she felt empowered by all of the support she received.
“To be completely honest, that was my first time performing in lingerie, but (the fact that) everybody around me - the dancers, the models - felt empowered really helped. Also, the pieces themselves help boost that confidence,” she said. “I did have a conversation with myself: ‘OK, all you can do it, commit, because you are in lingerie in front of people you don’t know! All you can do is really commit because you are going out there…’ That’s exactly what I did.”
The Motivation singer shared that she felt like she could give the performance her all because the underwear felt strong and durable.
“I am a heavy-chested girl and that’s the only reason I was able to go 110 per cent, because I felt supported and I didn’t feel like I was going to come out of everything. Everything is very, very durable, and you can tell that Rih herself and also the Savage team takes time out to make sure it’s the best quality possible,” the star praised.
The 23-year-old added that the experience felt more like a concert than a fashion show and there was an “infectious” energy backstage.
