Noraniza Idris doesn't think she qualifies for datukship
9 Jun – Finally, the question as to why Noraniza Idris has yet to receive Datukship, despite being known as one of the most respected traditional music icons, has been answered.
The singer has apparently declined to accept it.
Noraniza, known to her fans as Kak Ani, shared in a recent interview that she has been offered to be honoured with the title several times, but that she felt she isn't worthy enough to hold it.
"What is my contribution? I really can't just accept it. I am not a successful person. It's fine if I really had made a large contribution," she said.
Kak Ani also added that she would feel embarrassed having such a title, since she is not a millionaire who is able to help a lot of other people.
In related news, Kak Ani revealed that she has begun preparing for her final solo concert, "Malai Solo", which will be held in October in Istana Budaya.
"I hope to do my best. This is my last concert and it involves a really steep cost. We already have our production crew and our list of songs. But the music director will be making the decision later," she added.
