No Time To Die director claims James Bond, ‘basically’ a rapist

Cary Fukunaga, No Time To Die’s director, claims Sean Connery’s James Bond was a rapist. This statement has raised a lot of controversy around the film. The new 007 director did not mince his words to please people. He has rather given a very straightforward take on the character. The director is referring to a scene from 1965, the film Thunderball. The scene portrays Bond meeting a nurse. He tries to woo her but when rejected, he goes on to kiss her without consent.

“Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where, like, basically Sean Connery’s character rapes a woman?

While discussing the modern relevance of Bond when he says: “Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where, like, basically Sean Connery’s character rapes a woman?

“You can’t change Bond overnight into a different person. But you can definitely change the world around him,” said the director. Fukunaga added that Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond in No Time To Die would have a more respectful view of women.

Film producer Barbara Broccoli says, “I think people are coming around. With some kicking and screaming – accepting that stuff is no longer acceptable. Thank goodness,” He’s got a long history, and the history of the past is very different to the way he is being portrayed now.”

Much of what was accepted and portrayed in the 1960s is no longer acceptable now. Portrayals of both men and women have changed over the years. With Bond’s new film hitting cinemas on September 30 it will be interesting to look out for how the character will be portrayed.
