‘Wonder Woman’ may have landed another kick-ass female lead… as Nicole Kidman enters talks to join Gal Gadot in the upcoming DC comic book movie.
According to The Wrap, the 48-year-old star might just pick up a sword and shield to join the ranks of the Amazonian warriors in ‘Wonder Woman’.
“Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is in ongoing negotiations to play a high-ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot in WB’s ‘Wonder Woman’,” they said. “A representative for Warner Bros. had no comment.”
Of course, Nicole Kidman is a household name – appearing in a catalogue of blockbusters since the early ‘80s. But this wouldn’t be the first time she’s appeared in a DC comic book movie. After all, she did play the role of Dr Chase Meridian opposite Val Kilmer in ‘Batman Forever’.
But who will she play in ‘Wonder Woman’?
Although little is known about her role, it’s described as being a high-ranking Amazonian warrior… and that sounds a lot like Queen Hippolyta.
Appearing extensively in the comic books, Hippolyta is actually Wonder Woman’s mother, and leader of the Amazons. Desperate for a child of her own, she asked the gods to help her. Following in the same tradition as the creation of all Amazonian women, a baby was crafted out of clay from Paradise Island… which was then given life and turned into flesh and blood.
Will Wonder Woman’s big screen origin follow this story?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it would make a lot of sense.
Nicole Kidman would join Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, with Chris Pine as the heroine’s love interest, Steve Trevor. Patty Jenkins will direct the upcoming movie, based on a script by Jason Fuchs.
‘Wonder Woman’ heads to cinemas on 23 June 2017.
