Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is readying a ‘formal approach’ for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, while Fabrizio Romano has debunked recent claims regarding Julian Nagelsmann.

Former Bayern boss Nagelsmann emerged as one of the early contenders to take the reins in north London once Antonio Conte was sacked.

The German is understood to harbour concerns over who Tottenham’s sporting director will be. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano reported “he’d only consider the job with [a] supportive sporting director” in situ.

That role is currently vacant at Spurs following Fabio Paratici’s resignation. Paratici left his post after seeing an appeal to overturn a worldwide 30-month ban from football for financial malpractice in Italy rejected.

However, the Times reported on Saturday that Nagelsmann was back in the mix. Other outlets even went as far as to say talks between Tottenham and the 35-year-old had begun.

But according to trusted reporter Romano, those claims are wide of the mark.

Indeed, the journalist tweeted “negotiations between Nagelsmann and Tottenham have not resumed.”

There is said to have been “no changes” on that front, with Romano instead describing Arne Slot of Feyenoord as a “concrete option” who has been “discussed internally” at Spurs.

Sky Sports recently reported Feyenoord are growing ‘increasingly concerned’ they’ll lose Slot, 44, to Tottenham this summer.

Now, a fresh update from the Athletic has revealed the latest on that front.

They state a ‘formal approach’ is looming for Slot who has moved into pole position for the Spurs role.

Tottenham are seeking a candidate who can transform the culture at the club and want someone more comparable with Mauricio Pochettino back in 2014 as opposed to another serial winner yet combustible character like Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte.

Slot is seemingly the man they’re turning to and the Dutchman would arrive on the back of a wildly impressive stint with Feyenoord.

Indeed, Slot recently guided Feyenoord to just their second Eredivisie title this century. All the more impressive is the fact the league was wrapped up with two games to spare.

Slot has also proven himself in Europe when guiding Feyenoord to the final of the Europa Conference League on a shoestring budget last year.

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf recently reported Slot can be plucked from Feyenoord thanks to a release clause, though noted it doesn’t become active until 2024.

However, the presence of the clause and the fact it makes a future exit inevitable anyway ‘may form the basis for a negotiation’ this summer, per Sky Sports.

With a formal approach now coming, the end may be in sight for Tottenham’s managerial hunt.
