Next ‘plausible’ Chelsea transfer revealed as talks to sign £30m ‘special talent’ progress
Chelsea are reportedly pushing to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki as Mauricio Pochettino looks to bring in more attacking reinforcements this summer.
The Blues have already brought in nine new players, including big-money signings such as Moises Caicedo (£115m) and Romeo Lavia (£58m).
Their transfer business is far from over, though, and Cherki is one player who could make a switch to Stamford Bridge in the next few days.
Chelsea missed out on signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace last week and as a result, they are now scouring the transfer market for alternatives.
Cherki has the ability to play as a winger on either flank as an attacking midfielder. He could provide competition for the likes of Raheem Sterling and Mykhaylo Mudryk this season.
As reported by TEAMtalk, another Lyon attacker, Bradley Barcola, has also been considered by the Chelsea hierarchy.
It now seems, however, that Cherki is higher on Pochettino’s list of transfer targets than his Lyon teammate.
Chelsea plot move for ‘special talent’ Cherki
According to transfer journalist Dean Jones, Cherki remains a ‘plausible’ signing for Chelsea this summer.
Speaking to The Football Terrace, Jones said: “Rayan Cherki is the one that keeps coming back to me and has done for two months now – it’s one that I think is plausible.
“I have him just ahead of (Bradley) Barcola (on the list), who Chelsea are also looking at.”
“Regardless of who Chelsea end up signing out of Cherki and Barcola, Mauricio Pochettino would be getting his hands on a special talent either way.”
Reports suggest Chelsea could sign Cherki for around £30m. That shouldn’t be a problem for Todd Boehly, who has already broken (his own) British transfer record this summer.
The 19-year-old was in fine form for Lyon last season and caught the attention of several top European clubs. He made 34 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring four goals and making six assists in the process.
Interestingly, Newcastle have also considered making a bid for Cherki but it now seems that they have dropped out of the race.
As a result, Chelsea are the leading contenders to sign the youngster. Whether or not they meet Lyon’s £30m price tag, however, still remains to be seen.
