Next "Fast and Furious" spinoff might be led by Charlize Theron

Looks like Cipher is sticking around, Dom.

10 May – Back in January, Vin Diesel teased on social media that a female-centric "Fast and Furious" spinoff was already in development but didn't offer any clue as to which character will be leading the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter might have the answer to that, when it revealed that Universal Pictures is keen on expanding the "Fast and Furious" franchise the way Marvel Studios has done with its Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This means sequels and spinoffs, which is no new news since Vin Diesel – who produces and stars as Dominic Toretto in the movies – has been talking about this, but what is new is that this is the first mention of a Charlize Theron-led female spinoff being one of the movies that the studio is planning.

Theron's character, the cyberterrorist Cipher, was first introduced in 2017's "Fast and Furious".

The story could pick up where the eighth instalment of the main series left off, or it could go in a different direction with a largely new cast, the way the studio has currently done with its first spinoff, "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw".

Expect to see sequels for this, too, by the way.

Despite originating from different sides of the law, Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw are thrown together in a buddy cop action movie setup in their spinoff. So Cipher could possibly move to the good side too when she gets her own spinoff – or she could just be an even bigger villain who will eventually meet Dom and the gang again in a future instalment of the main series, the possibility is endless.

While fans eagerly await the confirmation, first catch Theron playing a non-villain in the now showing rom-com "Long Shot", then catch "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" in cinemas this August and "Fast And Furious 9" which will open in cinemas May 2020.
