Stars gathered to commemorate Anita Mui

2 Jan – It was a star-studded affair as top celebrities and good friends of the late Hong Kong diva, Anita Mui gathered to commemorate the singer's 10th year of passing.

As reported on Xinhua on the night of 30 December, a huge number of artistes including Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Jackie Chan, William So, Grasshopper, Sandy Lam, Tony Leung, Carina Lau, Miriam Yeung, Denise Ho, Anita Yuen, Andy Lau, Eason Chan, Aaron Kwok, Sammi Cheng, and Andy Hui participated in the concert where they perform her greatest hits and shared memories of the past.

The appearances of so many stars were a surprise to many, as the list of performers has never been revealed to the media and fans prior to the event.

The concert, which was co-organised by Jacky Cheung and Eric Tsang, held approximately 8000 fans and was made to look like Anita's final concert back in 2003, with a large band and a long staircase. Both the performers and audiences were also dressed in black or white and were given a rose-coloured lantern as a sign of respect to the late singer.

The performers also took turn to share their memories together. Eric likened the concert as a surprise party for Anita, while George Lam tried to hold his tears as he performed in his suit that was last worn during a performance at Anita's final concert a decade ago.

Maggie Cheung revealed that Anita was both like a sister and a brother who would have pillow fights and taking in the alcohol for her, while Anita Yuen shared that she decided to use the English name "Anita" as the singer had been her idol since she was a kid.

Among other stars that performed include Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok, Andy Hui, A-Mei, Eason Chan and Sandy Lam. Even Jackie Chan and Andy Lau could not hold in their tears when Jacky shared that Eric cried non-stop during rehearsal.

Jacky and Eric also revealed that they will not be holding a concert for Anita every year to allow Anita to get the proper respect, and added, "As long as Anita's powerful force can be held for another ten years, many friends will continue to remember her and feelings for her will never change."

Meanwhile, it was reported that Anita's mother has to leave the concert early because of her old age. However, she thanked everyone for their support.
