30 Jul – TVB has recently received a huge amount of complaints over their new weekly drama, "Shades of Life".
As reported on HK Channel, the Hong Kong Communications Authority revealed that it has received more than 1500 reports last week from viewers, including complaints about the series' misleading contents, inaccurate portrayal, low programme quality, as well as undermining Hong Kong's image to the international audiences.
The TVB show, which dedicates itself in reflecting the Hong Kong society, was slammed for demonising the citizens and distorting the societal values instead.
Among the critics of the new show is director Pang Ho Cheung of "Vulgaria" fame, who wrote in his Facebook, "I was watching "Shades of Life" last night. It was frivolous and childish, as well as cheap and pretentious."
Asked to comment on the heavy criticism, TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs Tsang Sing Ming stated, "The series truly reflect the issues in Hong Kong. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, we hope to have everybody to care for our society."
Mr. Tsang added that its producer, Franklin Wong, has already expected some backlash from a segment of the society when showing the true reality of the situation.
