"Lang Tong" is censored for public viewing

9 Mar – Fans looking forward to the gory and steamy scenes in the local Mandarin erotic thriller, "Lang Tong", will be disappointed to know that the movie has undergone cuts.

From an original runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes, a total of 3 minutes have been chipped away to form the relatively shorter 79-minute censored version, according to The Straits Times.

Some of the explicit scenes that are no longer featured in the film are the lesbian scene where a woman kisses a person of the same sex, and the 'snipping' scene – which would have men instinctively crossing their legs – where a wife cuts off her cheating husband's private parts using a pair of garden shears.

"I want to push the boundaries. Singapore might be a conservative society, but dark things do happen here, too," said director Sam Loh of his movie.

The director also reveals that "Lang Tong", which tells the story of a woman who asks her boyfriend to kill her own sister whom the man has been cheating on her with, is only the first from a series of three movies. Dubbed as the "Femme Fatale" trilogy, the next two movies will be titled "Siew Lup" and "Dim Sum".

The movie stars Angeline Yap, the third Runner Up in Miss World Singapore 2014; William Lawandi; and Vivienne Tseng.

"Lang Tong" is now showing at cinemas.
