Jared Leto, Margot Robbie for "Suicide Squad"

Jared Leto, Margot Robbie for "Suicide Squad"

11 Nov – Margot Robbie was previously reported to be in talks for a part in the upcoming DC movie "Suicide Squad", now Collider has confirmed that the Australian actress will be playing the role of the Joker's other half, Harley Quinn.

The character was first introduced in "Batman: The Animated Series" as the Joker's girlfriend and this will be the first time the character will appear on the big screen.

"Suicide Squad" tells the story of a group of the world's most notorious supervillains gathered together and commissioned by the government to perform highly dangerous tasks.

To be directed by David Ayer, several big names have been thrown around as the possible cast for the movie, such as Will Smith and Tom Hardy, but so far only Robbie's name is set in stone.

Meanwhile, Jared Leto is reportedly being eyed for the role of Joker, starring opposite Robbie as her onscreen beau. The role was originally offered to Ryan Gosling but the actor turned it down as he was not willing to sign on for multiple films.

Leto would have huge shoes to fill, after the Joker legacy of Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson, but the actor just might take the offer as he has yet to appear in another movie after his Oscar-winning performance in 2013's "Dallas Buyers Club".

"Suicide Squad" is slated for release in North America on 5 August 2016.
