Bruce Willis says Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is “tough as nails”.

The Hollywood action star is currently promoting A Good Day to Die Hard, his fifth outing as daredevil police officer John McClane. Bruce has a soft spot for the British royal family, particularly the current monarch.

“Can I say how much I like London? Because my wife and I and our new baby Mabel were here for almost three months over the last year. I am a big fan of the queen and all the royals, but I like that queen,” he said during an interview with UK TV show Daybreak. “Tough as nails, tough, a sweetheart.”

When asked whether he thought the queen was as “tough” as his Die Hard character, Bruce was quick to respond.

“No. I think John McClane could take her,” he smiled.

In A Good Day to Die Hard, John has a complicated relationship with his seemingly wayward son Jack. In real life, Bruce has four daughters – three adult children with his ex-wife Demi Moore and a baby girl with wife Emma Heming.

The 57-year-old star believes it was easier to raise girls than boys, even though he had some concerns for his older daughters during their teenage years.

“Not as much trouble… they are no trouble at all. My older girls are turning into fabulous young women. There was a time when they were in their mid-teens when I didn’t know what was going to happen with them,” he revealed. “I am so pleased to tell you that they turned out really great. My ten-month-old daughter Mabel has her own sense of humour.”

Bruce also reflected on how his experiences of fatherhood have evolved, especially since the arrival of Mabel.

“Yes there is a gap, but I don’t think I’ve changed,” he explained. “It seems, if anything, to be more fun. I think my job outside acting is to make Mabel laugh. And I do stupid stuff all the time, like spitting water out of my mouth.”

Bruce also spoke about working with Jai Courtney, who plays his son Jack in the new Die Hard movie.

He fuelled rumours the young star could take over the franchise.

“I am doing pretty good with [action scenes], I can keep up with the younger kids. And I think that kid Jai Courtney is awesome,” he added. “He was a great son and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have him back.”
