'The Amazing Spider-Man' stuck at the North American box office

After a record opening on July 3 and steady revenues on Independence Day, The Amazing Spider-Man is losing momentum at the North American box office.

According to Deadline.com, Spider-Man's reboot generated $16.3 million in Canada and the US on July 5, far less than the day before. The fourth installment of the franchise amassed $23.4 million on July 4, helping make this the second best Independence Day in US history in terms of film revenue, after the release of Michael Bay's Transformers. On July 3, The Amazing Spider-Man attracted $35 million, the best opening ever on a Tuesday.

As days go by, The Amazing Spider-Man's box-office draw is losing momentum. However, the movie should rebound this weekend. Sony Pictures expected the film to pull in $140 million in six days, a good taking, but far from entering box-office history.

By comparison, another superhero film out a few months ago, The Avengers, holds this year's record for the highest grossing weekend in North America with $207.4 million made in only three days.
