Newcomer Jayme Lawson Joins Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’
Newcomer and recent Juilliard graduate Jayme Lawson has joined the cast of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” TheWrap has confirmed. Lawson’s role is being kept under wraps.
Robert Pattinson is set to star as the Dark Knight, with Reeves having taken over the directing gig after Ben Affleck stepped away from the project. Affleck was also originally expected to play Batman but then said he would be hanging up the cape for good.
Reeves has since described the film as a “defining” and “very personal” story about the Dark Knight, rather than an origin story in the vein of Frank Miller’s beloved “Year One” series.

Lawson would join the cast which includes Zoe Kravitz who has been cast as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman and Paul Dano who has been cast as Edward Nashton, also known as the Riddler. TheWrap exclusively reported the casting of Andy Serkis who is in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth. Colin Farrell is in talks to play Penguin.

Reeves and Mattson Tomlin wrote the screenplay, and the film is being produced by Reeves and “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark. Michael E. Uslan is executive producing. It is set to start filming in January in the U.K.
Lawson is repped by UTA. Lawson’s stage credits include playing Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet” as well as the title role in “Hamlet,” and she has also played Lady Macbeth onstage, while training at Juilliard. Lawson also stars in “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” now playing at The Public Theater for the first time since its premiere in 1976; Jayme plays the Tony-winning role of “Lady in Red.”
“The Batman” will be released on June 25, 2021.
