A new trailer for ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ debuted to thousands of fans today at Star Wars Celebration… and it gave us our first glimpse of iconic ‘Star Wars’ villain, Darth Vader.

Unfortunately, the trailer is yet to appear online, but it’s thought to be unveiled by ABC at some point during the evening. And it ends with a glimpse of Darth Vader.

“We do have confirmation that Darth Vader is in ‘Rogue One’,” said ‘Star Wars’ actress and panel compare, Gwendoline Christie.

Of course, the first thing you notice is his trademark heavy-breathing… but before you know it, a shot of Darth Vader’s silhouette confirms what everyone knew already – that the iconic ‘Star Wars’ villain will indeed appear in ‘Rogue One’.

And better yet – James Earl Jones has returned to provide his voice.

“We finished filming in December and I got straight on a plane to New York to do a voiceover recording with a gentleman called James Earl Jones,” said ‘Rogue One’ director Gareth Edwards. “I can’t tell you what role he plays in the film because I don’t want to give that away…”

And it seems Edwards had an early Christmas present when working with one of his idols.

“I don’t want to give anything away… but he does this line where he says the word, ‘power’,” he explained. “And [me and sound engineer Matt Wood] just both looked at each other and had this nerdgasm. We were reduced to like, three-year-olds. And then we looked back and were like ‘yes, that’s great James – let’s do that one more time’.”

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ revolves around the Rebel Alliance’s efforts to gain the plans to the original Death Star… and obviously, this could mean that Darth Vader plays a large role in the upcoming movie.

Quite how large remains to be seen.

But we can certainly feel his presence already.

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
