Do you like shopping for affordable goods on Taobao, but have problems understanding the site in Chinese? Well, shopping just got a lot easier, because Lazada is launching a whole new website to sell these products.

The e-commerce site is working together with China’s Alibaba Group to sell Taobao products directly to Singapore-based shoppers, with the new site linking directly to Taobao’s platform, Bloomberg News reported.

The new website will be adding 400,000 new Taobao products to its existing line-up consisting of around five million products.

Problems faced by shoppers in Singapore

While the Taobao open marketplace has been available to Singaporeans for a number of years, the platform is in Chinese, which not all shoppers can read and understand.

Instead of buying on Taobao, many local shoppers choose to buy their bargain goods through agents that provide English translations and facilitate deliveries from China to Singapore.

While agents can be more convenient for some shoppers, buyers may face problems when trying to return unsatisfactory products. Lazada’s new website promises to take swift action to protect its shoppers against counterfeit products, which Taobao has become known for in recent years.

“We want to solve those difficulties, enabling an effortless way for them to shop,” said Alexis Lanternier, chief executive officer of Lazada Singapore.

“Now it’s all translated into English and you don’t have to worry about shipping options, payment method, returning. You are going to be able to track your order end-to-end,” Lanternier added.
