Sony Pictures recently confirmed that Jason Reitman’s upcoming reboot of the beloved Ghostbusters franchise will be called Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The studio have now provided some more information on the hugely anticipated sci-fi comedy, including some integral plot details that explain how Ghostbusters: Afterlife will connect to the 1984 original.

According to Variety, the new synopsis for Ghostbusters: Afterlife reads, “When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”

You can also check out the brand new poster for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which sees the Ecto-1 driving through a remote countryside, while an ominous cloud swirls high in the sky, below.

If that somehow doesn’t get you excited for Ghostbusters: Afterlife then the revelation that its first trailer will arrive on Monday definitely will.

In it, we will almost certainly get our first looks at Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard, while fans will also be dreaming that the original Ghostbusters cast, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, will pop up, too.

Jason Reitman, who as well as directing Afterlife has also co-written the script with Gil Kenan, has a long history with the Ghostbusters franchise. It was his father Ivan Reitman who produced and directed the 1984 original, which, at the time, became the highest grossing comedy in history. A less acclaimed sequel followed in 1989, while Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot also failed to excite audiences upon its release, too.

We’ll finally get to see if Ghostbusters: Afterlife can do just that when it is released on July 10, 2020.
