Why you should probably never order hot drinks on a plane

Sometimes a cup of tea or coffee might be the only thing that gets you through a long flight, but as it turns out it might actually be something you should be avoiding.

Apparently ordering a hot beverage during a flight isn’t the best idea, according to a flight attendant.

Jamila Hardwick, a flight attendant and vlogger, spilled the beans in a clip filmed for Inside Edition in September with the video going viral again on Instagram this week.

“The thing about the coffee and tea, the pipes are rarely cleaned,” she said, before it was also revealed airlines are only required to disinfect the water tanks four times a year.

She said even her fellow crew members won’t ever make themselves a hot drink while working.

The revelation did spark some debate online with most people saying it’s no big deal and we should just deal with it.

“Until we all get our millions and have our own private planes it looks like we all will have to deal with it,” one person commented.

“Oh, for goodness' sake, you're never going to be free of 'germs' wherever you go,” another agreed.

Most said they had been drinking tea or coffee on planes for decades and never had any issues.

“Rubbish - been flying for more than 40 years, never had a problem with drinking hot tea or coffee on an airplane. It might taste different, but it was never infectious,” one person wrote.

Most disgusting part of a plane

She also confirmed again that it’s the tray tables - not the bathrooms - that are the most disgusting place on a plane.

Back in 2018 a Reddit thread called Flight Attendants of Reddit: What Do the Passengers Not Know? revealed why the tray tables are the grossest area on a plane.

“Tray tables are rarely if ever sanitised; do not put food directly on them," one crew member wrote.

“Don’t change your baby’s diaper on the tray table! This also happens all the time. It's unsanitary and people use the tray table to eat, put their personal things on, etc.”
