Netizens question the risks posed by variety show, "Chase Me"

29 Nov – The sudden death of model-actor Godfrey Gao has now raised questions about Zhejiang TV's reality show, "Chase Me" and the dangers it posed on its contestants.

As reported on Mingpao, since the broadcast of the said variety show, there has been repeated reports of contestants' injuries. Fixed cast members William Chan and Johnny Huang would often get physically drained during the taping, and even Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming had to be escorted off by staff members due to cramping that nearly drowned him in a ball pool.

It is known many artistes had suffered from cramps and severe exhaustion, and some had to be hooked to an oxygen concentrator following a challenge.

The challenge course in the show was also revealed to be highly dangerous, as contestants were required to take part in various missions like scaling a tall building, navigating a maze, paragliding, climbing a wall with bare hands, and going through various obstacles.

Following Godfrey's death, netizens took to social media to demand Zhejiang TV to stop broadcasting the show and for the production to be held accountable. It was also rumoured that "Chase Me" will be suspended and all variety shows concerning sports will be reviewed in the future.
