Netflix show The Crown has reportedly cast an actor to play the young Prince Andrew in its next series.

25-year-old Tom Byrne is set to play the Duke of York in the show's fourth season, according to reports in The Sun.

Byrne has starred in various productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and studied at the Bristol Old Vic theatre.

He's also appeared in Charlie Brooker's Netflix thriller anthology series Black Mirror, as well as Sky series A Discovery of Witches.

Prince Andrew hit headlines and earned the nickname 'Randy Andy' in the tabloids throughout the 1980s, with a string of well publicised relationships.

He married Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

However, he has since come under heavy scrutiny for his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the US financier and convicted paedophile who died in his jail cell in August last year.

The Netflix series, created by Peter Morgan, has followed the Royal Family since 2016, when Claire Foy played the Queen from her wedding to Phillip Mountbatten, played first by Matt Smith, in 1947.

The most recent series has found Olivia Colman playing the Queen, opposite Game of Thrones star Tobias Menzies in the role of Prince Philip.

As well as Prince Andrew appearing in the show's fourth series, Emma Corrin will play Lady Diana Spencer, the future wife of Prince Charles, with Gillian Anderson set to play Margaret Thatcher.

In January, it was announced that Imelda Staunton will succeed Colman as the Queen for the series’ fifth and final season.
