Steven DeKnight, showrunner on Netflix’s Daredevil series has slammed Marvel Studios and Disney for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again reboot series for Disney+.
DeKnight called the reboot “an old Disney scam” that will keep the Netflix series creatives from getting what they are financially due. His comment came about in an X (previously known as Twitter) response to a thread written by a crew member of the Daredevil Netflix series named Thomas.
In the thread, Thomas wrote that “they cancel[led] Daredevil once crew got full raise and holiday/vacation pay.”
He added, “And not only did they cancel Daredevil once crew got full raise and holiday/vacation pay… The Disney+ reboot is back to season one IASTE contract terms. It’s a f***ing scam.”
And not only did they cancel Daredevil once crew got full raise and holiday/vacation pay…. The Disney+ reboot is back to season one IATSE contract terms. It’s a fucking scam. I wonder if @stevendeknight knows that!

IATSE is a union that represents film, TV and stage crew workers.
DeKnight replied, “It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!”
He does. It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed! https://t.co/Ttj4A3tnE4

While Marvel Studios hasn’t explicitly called Born Again a reboot, there are evidence supporting both claims. For starters, Born Again will bring back actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio from the Netflix series to reprise their roles as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Kingpin/Wilson Fisk. The return of Jon Bernthal as Punisher also makes it seem like a continuation of the Netflix series.
However, the show did recast the role of Vanessa Fisk, changed the Kingpin’s origin and isn’t bringing back characters Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. Series lead Cox even came out in September 2022 to clarify that Born Again is not a continuation of the Netflix series too. All these indicate that Born Again will be an entirely new story on its own.
DeKnight later wrote on X, “To be clear, I can’t wait to see Charlie Cox and the amazing Vincent D’Onofrio reprise their iconic roles. But to claim this is a complete reboot and you don’t have to pay the original creatives is some corporate shenanigans, to say the least.”
Filming for the 18-episode Disney+ season had already begun, but was suspended after three months into their eight-month shoot due to the WGA strike.
