Spread across three days, the indie music and arts festival managed to run smoothly despite the onset of torrential rain: set times were delayed to ensure the safety of concert goers, and performances continued on without any major issues.

With a smaller festival ground, songstress Yuna led the first night on Friday 10 Nov, while American bands Interpol and Cigarettes After Sex took charge of the second night. Despite having played here in Singapore last year at Capitol Theatre, dreamy indie Brooklyn band Cigarettes After Sex have no qualms about showing off their ethereal, atmospheric sound again to their fans.

Interpol, having reached our shores for the first time, played close to a 70-minute set, covering tracks from ‘Evil’ to their newer tracks such as ‘If You Really Love Nothing’ and ‘The Rover’. A deserving treat considering the breath of their discography, and playing together since the year 2002. Paul Banks gave no hint of a smile, just allowing the records flow with its raw, punchy beats.

Androgynous vocals of lead singer Michael Milosh of the band Rhye captivated the crowd, together with his band who gave a rousing live performance: without the haunting strings, the bass and drums, the night’s performance would not be elevated to a new emotive high. It’s these formulaic sounds that make the experience so lush and organic.
