Neill Blomkamp's Alien Movie Will Disregard Alien 3 And Resurrection

News of South African director Neill Blomkamp’s possible ‘Alien’ movie has been smouldering among fans for a while now.

But Sigourney Weaver might have just thrown some extra petrol on the fire.

Apparently, his movie would disregard the plots of the largely unloved 'Alien 3’ and 'Alien: Resurrection’, and plough its own furrow.

She told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to [Alien 3] and [Alien: Resurrection] and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie.”

If the movie happens, it would be made after Ridley Scott completes his prequel 'Alien: Covenant’, the sequel to 'Prometheus’ which will supposedly dovetail into 'Alien’.

And it would feature the original characters too, including Weaver’s Ripley, Hicks, played by Michael Biehn and Newt, despite Ripley not surviving in David Fincher’s maligned 'Alien 3’.

But it’s worth noting that there have been both successes and failures where sequel movies have taken a separate path from their predecessors.

For every 'Jurassic World’, for example, there’s a 'Terminator: Genisys’.

However, with the ‘District 9′ director being a massive personal fan of the original 'Alien’ movies, you’d think that it would be in the best of hands.
