Neighbours Reunion! Kylie Minogue And Guy Pearce Cast In New Movie

There will be echoes of Ramsay Street in new Australian movie ‘Flammable Children’, with Kylie Minogue and fellow ex-Neighbours star Guy Pearce joining the cast.

The coming of age comedy, set in 1975, will also be set in suburban Oz, and as if that hasn’t already got you humming Tony Hatch’s catchy theme tune, Radha Mitchell is also starring alongside them.

Mitchell, recently seen in ‘London Has Fallen’, played Catherine O'Brien in the show from 1994 up to 1997.

Minogue and Pearce, meanwhile, played Charlene Mitchell and Mike Young in the long-running show.

The film will also reunite Pearce with helmsman Stephan Elliott, who directed him in 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ back in 1994.

The synopsis reads:

“Australia, 1975. The beach suburb of Dee Why is a place that revolves around surf mats, baby oil, boxed wine and the new miracle of Kentucky Fried Chicken. 14-year-old Jeff tries to find his feet in a world changing faster than his hormones, and deal with his crush on shy and sensitive girl-next-door Melly. When the beach town suddenly hits the spotlight after the body of a 200-ton whale is washed ashore, Jeff and Melly think it’s the biggest thing that ever happened in their lives. Meanwhile, their eccentric parents are catching up with the sexual revolution that has also washed up on Australia’s beaches. And just like the decaying whale, it’s all about to go spectacularly wrong.”

Of the casting, Screen Australia chief exec Graeme Mason said: “We are so excited to be able to support Flammable Children.

“In Kylie, Guy and Radha, the team has been able to secure some of Australia’s most established and iconic talents. The powerhouse in front of the camera is matched by the award-winning team behind it, who will bring our memories of 1970s Australia to life.”

The film begins production in October.
