It’s been a few days since Korean hip-hop music label AOMG (Above Ordinary Music Group) had their first concert in Singapore on Monday (1 May), but rapper Simon Dominic is still the talk of the town.

AOMG’s co-CEO and artist made headlines in Singapore after two of his female fans were arrested for misusing their boarding passes to meet him at Changi Airport’s transit area.

In case you were wondering just who Simon Dominic is, here are a few things you need to know about the popular South Korean rapper.

  • Born and raised in Busan as Jung Ki-seok, he is well-known for using his distinctive Busan accent (or ‘satoori’ in Korean) on Korean variety shows. His stage name, Simon Dominic, is the combination of his baptised name ‘Dominic’ and the name of Wesley Snipes’ character from the movie ‘Demolition Man’. Among fans, he is just usually referred to as “Simon D” or simply “Ssam D”.

  • He likes laksa. During AOMG’s concert in Singapore, the rapper declared his love for laksa and told the crowd to call him ‘Laksa(si)mon Dominic’.

  • He has been to Singapore twice. The first time he was in the country was to attend the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards. The second time was for AOMG’s “Follow The Movement” concert in Singapore, held at the Suntec Convention Hall on 1 May. He performed alongside rappers Loco, Gray and AOMG’s CEO, Jay Park. He was also spotted at Universal Studios Singapore with Gray the day after the concert. No news on whether he managed to get another bowl of laksa there, though.

  • Recently, he served as a judge and producer on season five of the popular rap competition TV show, “Show Me The Money”.

  • From 2007 to 2013, he was romantically linked to fellow musician Lady Jane. Last year, there were rumours of him being linked to Irene, a member of K-pop girl group Red Velvet (who will be here in August for Music Bank). Just recently at AOMG’s concert in Singapore, the ladies joked about his age and he said, “It is about time for me to get married.”

  • While two of Simon D’s female fans got arrested because they wanted to see him, there have been previous instances of fans going out of their way to meet him. But that’s not for lack of good reason, because according to these fan accounts, he doles out fan-service very readily.
