The planning committee for the National Day Parade (NDP) has released this year’s theme song – a cover of the NDP theme song from 1987, We Are Singapore.

Adapted from the original song by local singer-songwriter Charlie Lim, the song is only the second NDP song ever to get an official remix by the annual parade’s planning committee.

The song features multiple performers, including Lim himself as well as Vanessa Fernandez, Aisyah Aziz, Shak’thiya Subramaniamm, THELIONCITYBOY, Joanna Dong and the ITE Show Choir. Watch the music video:

29-year-old Lim’s website describes his music styles as spanning the genres of “acoustic melancholia, post-rock, neo-soul, and electronic pop”. According to his bio, his 2015 album Time/Space rose to the top spot on the iTunes Singapore chart within an hour of its release and his songs have received more than 2.5 million plays on Spotify.

The classic and evergreen favourite NDP song Home, the only other official NDP theme song to get an NDP remix, was performed by JJ Lin in 2004. I think we can all agree that this year’s song rejig is much better than that butchering of Home. You can judge for yourself by watching this live performance during NDP 2004:
