The theme song for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) was unveiled on Wednesday (17 May), along with the logo and concept for Singapore’s 52nd birthday.

Titled “Because It’s Singapore”, the song was produced by singer Jay Lim and composer Lee Wei Song. Lim said that he had drawn inspiration from his family and his gratefulness to being in Singapore, calling it a “great honour” to pen the NDP theme song.

Chairman of the NDP 2017 executive committee, Colonel Melvin Ong, said the tune of the song explored what it meant to be “Singaporeans living together in our island home”, Channel News Asia reported.

Also unveiled were the theme and logo for the parade. #OneNationTogether marks the first time a hashtag is part of the NDP theme, for sharing through social media. According to the NDP official page, the theme “is a rallying call to unite all Singaporeans”.

The logo and the hash symbol also bear a resemblance to the four interlocking arms on Singapore’s first $10 note, part of the Orchid series launched in 1967.
