Namewee suddenly a millionaire from selling NFT
10 Nov – Namewee's decision to sell his song "Fragile" as a non-fungible token (NFT) has now made him a millionaire in a blink of an eye.
As reported on Epoch Times, the Malaysian singer-songwriter, who collaborated with Australian singer Kimberley Chen for the said song that had caused much controversy earlier, found himself 209 ETH (approximately RM4 million) richer within three hours of its launch.
Speaking about the situation, Namewee stated that he didn't expect the song would make much money, and launched the NFT at noon on 7 November without thinking too much about it.
"In the end, the song was sold in three hours, and I woke up a rich man. Honestly, I am a little overwhelmed here. But I promise that I will never convert this money into cash. No matter how much I earn, it will always circulate in the virtual world. Fight against the world bank!" he wrote on Facebook.
Namewee then revealed that he has also produced a song called "Go NFT" and that it is now available for purchase on OpenSea.
"Fragile" previously made headlines after China decided to ban both the song as well as the singers from Chinese social media and music platforms for supposedly taking a jab at Chinese president Xi Jinping by indirectly touching on sensitive topics such as COVID-19, cancel culture, and the Uighur people.
