Musician and academician Prof Dr Wan Zawawi passed away

19 May – Academician, composer and singer, Prof Dr Wan Zawawi Wan Ibrahim, has recently passed away.

The news was shared by his singer-songwriter son Hameer on Wan Zawawi's social media account on 18 May, writing, "My father Prof. Dr. Wan Zawawi had just passed away this morning. The jenazah prayer will be performed at the At-Taqwa Mosque in TTDI at noon today, and will then be buried at the Bukit Kiara cemetery."

"Arwah collapsed at 5.47am, and had passed away peacefully at 6.47pm," he said.

His wife, Noorshah Mohd Salleh said that her husband breathed his last at their residence in Petaling Jaya after collapsing while preparing to perform the Subuh prayers.

She admitted that Wan Zawawi was diagnosed with a heart problem two months ago and was supposed to undergo treatment.

Throughout his life, the late Wan Zawawi was best known for producing songs with humanitarian messages. He had collaborated with famous singers such as Datuk Ramli Sarip, Datuk M Nasir, Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim and Ella.

He was 75.
