Muji has recalled a pasta sauce product after finding small plastic pieces in some packages, the lifestyle retail chain said in a statement on Wednesday (1 August).

The product, Shrimp and Potherb Peperoncino Pasta Sauce, costs $4.90 and was sold from 9 April to 26 June this year.

The affected batch has an expiry date of 3 February 2019 and the product code is 4550002183004. Muji said at first in a notice on its website on 29 June that the product code was 4550002431020, but corrected this error in Wednesday’s statement.

Muji Singapore said it implemented the recall on 28 June after receiving a notification from Muji Japan. The affected products have been removed from all Muji stores and 29 unsold packets were sent back to Japan for investigation.

Customers are advised not to consume products from this batch and to get refunds by bringing the items to a Muji outlet or contacting customer service at 6346 4123.

Only the products with the expiry date of 3 February 2019 were affected, and other batches of the same product are safe for customers, said Muji.

“Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused,” Muji said to customers in its statement. “We will step up on our quality control and will make every possible effort to prevent such instances.”
