Movies Not to Miss: February 2020

With the Oscars on the way, fortunately, we've seen most of the contenders made it to Malaysian cinemas. So what's left for February are some newer titles, and we already have one potential title that could follow the trails left behind by the historical nomination of "Joker".
Interestingly, this month's releases are mostly one-offs (that could lead to potential sequels), so February is the month to get a fresh start with the cinema of 2020.
So, use any of your leftover ang pow money for these movies not to miss in February!
Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

When the crime lord Black Mask sends out for a hit on a young girl, she finds the unlikeliest protectors in Harley Quinn, Black Canary, the Huntress and Renee Montoya. Following the events after "Suicide Squad", Harley Quinn has emancipated herself from a relationship with the Joker and is now her own woman in a very unfriendly city. The DCEU makes its next entry while Warner Bros. continues to sort themselves out on its future. Besides becoming the first all-women superhero adaptation, newcomer director Cathy Yan will be making her first comic-book property movie as the first Asian woman to direct a DC film (or even any comic book property). Margot Robbie reprises her role as the crazy clown, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Ewan McGregor as a narcissistic prick.

As new guests are welcomed to an island, they are provided with the service that would fulfill their wildest dreams, even if that was not their intention. Produced by Blumhouse, and based on the television series of the same name from 1977, it is only natural to expect that all these wishful fulfillment would come at a disturbing cost. With Micheal Pena as the proprietor who goes to great lengths to fulfill the dreams of Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell and Portia Doubleday, we are looking for some real scares that doesn't involve shadows and the supernatural.

After many years of building a fanbase from his days in the SEGA console, it has taken many more years for the speeding hedgehog to have its day on the silver screen. Developing since 2014, it took another year to be released after the overly negative response it got when the first trailer came out. Now we can finally see the finished product itself, when the only criticism it can draw to itself is the story of Sonic ending up on Earth and becoming the target of a massive hedgehog hunt for his super speed (or the wild miscasting of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik).

A powerful drug lord wants to sell away his drug-running empire to a dynasty of billionaires that becomes a valuable story to sell. Some of us may have lost some faith with Guy Ritchie's choice of movies to make (including an unforgivable "Aladdin"), if Rian Johnson can bounce back from making "The Last Jedi" with "Knives Out", we think faith in Ritchie will be restored with "The Gentlemen". Beside starring a cast from the acting gentry with Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrel, Hugh Grant, and our very own English-accented Henry Golding, this is Ritchie going back to his element; the crime drama, albeit with a good splash of comedy thrown in for good measure. This is definitely for the fans who want to see Ritchie from his "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" days.
