The Most Outrageous Moments From MTV VMAs Past

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will be held this Sunday in New York City.

The show has delivered unforgettable moments since its inception in 1984, when Madonna writhed on the stage performing “Like a Virgin.”

Perhaps the most infamous VMA moment came in 2009, when an inebriated Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video by uttering the now infamous words, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you and I’m gonna let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.”

That incident kicked off a years-long feud that is still going on strong seven years later, most recently involving West’s single “Famous,” in which namedrops Swift.

The 2016 show will mark the first time Britney Spears will perform, nine years after her critically panned performance of “Gimme More,” where she listlessly danced and lip-synced around the stage. Spears will want to impress; she has a new album “Glory” to promote as well as her Vegas show.

Earlier this week, the pop princess turned in a so-so performance on James Corden’s popular singing series Carpool Karaoke.
