“Moonlight” swept at the Independent Spirit Awards
In news that makes us happy, Moonlight just won a bunch of awards! The critically-acclaimed film totally cleaned up at the Independent Spirit Awards yesterday. As if that weren’t exciting enough, it also set a new record for the film to win the most Indie Spirit Awards. So just how many awards did Moonlight win, you might ask?
It won a record-setting six Independent Spirit Awards!
Moonlight won Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, the Robert Altman Award for Best Ensemble Cast, and Best Editing.
This is incredibly good news for the film, which is up for Best Picture at the Oscars tonight. Director Barry Jenkins is also nominated for Best Director. Furthermore, very recent dad Mahershala Ali is up for Best Supporting Actor. And additionally, Naomie Harris is up for Best Supporting Actress. The film is also nominated for best Best Cinematography, Writing, Film Editing, and Music. It is so cool to see all the accolades that this amazing team has been winning together over the past couple months.
