We’re still getting over the excitement of finding out that Mindy Kaling is playing Mrs. Who in Ava Duvernay’s big-screen adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time (Oprah Winfrey is playing Mrs. Which and Reese Witherspoon is playing Mrs. Whatsit, hurrah huzzah!)
We feel spoiled because now we just got the great news that Kaling has another big movie in the works, one she penned and is starring in (cue a million exclamation marks)!!!!!!!
As The Hollywood Reporter tells us, Fox 2000 beat out a bunch of Hollywood competitors to score Mindy Kaling’s new screenplay, which has both our beloved Mindy AND our beloved Emma Thompson attached to star. The screenplay tells the story of Thompson’s character, a late night host, who finds her long-running hosting gig suddenly in jeopardy when she hires her first female writer (Kaling).
We cannot wait to see these two incredibly funny women work together!
Knowing what a rom-com superfan Kaling is, we imagine thatEmma Thompson was one of Kaling’s dream people to work with. After all, this is the leading lady of Sense and Sensibility, and one of our favorite characters in Love Actually. Fun fact: Thompson penned the screenplay for Sense and Sensibility (and won the Oscar for it, get it girl!) so Kaling and Thompson have the scribe/star thing in common, in addition to their general awesomeness.
We can’t wait for this movie! Can it come out tomorrow, please?
