Mikhail Red directs first original Netflix Philippines movie

21 Oct – Mikhail Red is releasing his first Netflix original, "Dead Kids", starring Khalil Ramos and Sue Ramirez.

As reported on Rappler, the filmmaker shared the good news on Instagram recently with a poster of the said movie, writing, "Almost two years ago ["Birdshot"] became the first Filipino film picked up by Netflix for worldwide streaming. Today, my next film ["Dead Kids'] makes history as an exclusive NETFLIX ORIGINAL FILM from the Philippines!"

"It has always been my dream as a filmmaker to reach a global audience! Thank you globe studios for helping us with this new distribution model. Hope this opens doors for more Filipino productions. Stay tuned for the official release date and more epic announcements!" he added.

According to Netflix, the movie is "a mix of friendship, coming-of-age, thriller, and crime rolled into one, societal eye-opening movie."

On the other hand, lead actor Khalil Ramos also took to Twitter to share the poster and express his happiness over the said project, saying, "The news is finally out. This is unreal. I'm part of the very FIRST FILIPINO NETFLIX FILM. Wild!!! Could anybody guess which of these goofballs is me? Dead Kids soon on [Netflix] worldwide! Congrats to the whole team behind Dead Kids!!"

Aside from "Birdshot" and the upcoming movie, another Red film, "Eerie" - starring Bea Alonzo and Charo Santos - is also streaming on the said platform.
