Looks like the rumor mill is running when it comes to the popular rumor hope dream for the original, unedited version of Star Wars: A New Hope to be re-released. This year is the 40th anniversary of the film and rumors are beginning to circulate (again) that we might soon be able to see the original version of Star Wars in some form.

In case you don’t know what we’re talking about, the original version of the Star Wars trilogy is nearly impossible to own. George Lucas changed the originals for the DVD release and copies of the unedited version are very limited. But fans have been hoping for re-released versions of the original and unedited films for years. Just think about never again being able to watch your favorite film as you saw it in the theater?! Luckily, it seems like recently a few fans have restored a film version of the original and it looks amazing. So, there’s hope!

But the real dream would be a wide release in theaters or at least the ability to purchase the original versions in some sort of high-quality way via Blu-ray or DVD. This has been rumored in the past but according to MakingStarWars.net, this time the rumor could be true. They have enough sources and tips where they think a re-release of the originals could be coming as part of the 40th anniversary this year. And the demand is still strong is you take a visit to Twitter:

The next new film is The Last Jedi. Will we get a re-release of the originals before it hits theaters December 15th? Keep your fingers crossed!
