Mickey Rourke baffled fans with a bizarre appearance on Good Morning Britain, and even seemed to forget which film he was on the show to promote.

The 66-year-old actor was interviewed from his Los Angeles home in order to talk about his appearance as the leader of a white supremacist prison gang in thriller Night Walk.

Host Susanna Reid asked the star a question about the film and the difficulty of playing a character with such abhorrent views, but Rourke looked confused and asked “what movie?” before the host clarified.

He said: “That was real interesting to work with because it was a young, first-time director that wasn't terrified to work with me. He was just very excited to work with me.”

Reid’s co-host Piers Morgan also attempted to quiz Rourke on his return to the summit of the acting world with his comeback leading man turn in Darren Aronofsky’s gritty 2008 drama The Wrestler.

“I never really felt like I was back at the top,” said Rourke.

“When you have been out of work for a decade then things start to happen again... I never really felt like I accomplished anything much.”

Social media users were quick to express their confusion at the actor’s bizarre GMB interview, while others criticised the focus on Rourke’s appearance.

Rourke was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in The Wrestler and also won both the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for Best Actor.

He later entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Iron Man 2 as villain Whiplash.
