26 Jun – Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh may play a role in the new Alan Taylor movie, "Gold Mountain".

As reported on Sina, the actress, who was last seen in a Hollywood movie playing the role of matriarch Eleanor Young in "Crazy Rich Asians", is currently in talks to produce and join the cast of the new period adventure alongside Jane Wu, Brandan Dennehy, and Taylor himself.

"Gold Mountain" is set in the 1850s San Francisco during the Gold Rush period. The story, penned by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig - will revolve around a widow who teams up with a China girl to "con unsuspecting men".

The film was described "the American Western film with Chinese immigrants as the protagonists".

Taylor, whose wife is also Chinese American, also talked about the film at the Shanghai Film Festival, saying that he has always wanted to do a movie of this theme.

"If you open the history book of the United States, you will be surprised to find that the early Chinese immigrants during the Gold Rush period helped build the history of the Pacific Railway. But basically, it has been erased," he said.

On the other hand, Michelle has two new movies currently in post-production - the Joe Carnahan sci-fi, "Boss Level", and the Paul Feig comedy, "Last Christmas".
