Michelle Williams is ‘proudly’ seeking help for depression after suffering from the condition throughout her singing career.

The Destiny’s Child band member revealed that she sought advice from loved ones in a candid Instagram post.

The 36-year-old wrote [sic]: “For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing.”

“I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals.

“Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.

“If you change your mind, you can change your life.”

In an interview last October, Williams admitted to battling depression while she was in Destiny’s Child and said that it was only in her thirties when she realised what she was suffering from.

She told CBS show, ‘The Talk’: “For years, I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time suffering with depression.”

“It got really, really bad… I was suicidal,” Williams admitted.

“I was in that place where it got so dark and heavy because sometimes you feel like ‘I’m the provider, I take care of people, I’m not supposed to be feeling this way – what do I do?’ I wanted out.”

In response to her refreshingly honest post – which amassed over 36,500 likes – Missy Elliott Tweeted support for the singer-songwriter: “I want to lift our sis up in prayer because there are so many people battling this and many trying to deal with it alone.”

The rapper added via the social media platform: “Let’s keep the ones who are openly dealing with it uplifted and be encouraging to them.”
