Michelle Obama opened up about why she believes in being silly, and it’s so lovely

It’s impossible not to be madly in love with First Lady Michelle Obama. She’s brilliant, successful, funny, kind, she’s a style icon, and she’s all about female empowerment (which we’re clearly 100% on board with). Plus, she loves being silly, as she discussed in her recent interview with Variety.

FLOTUS on the power of silliness has us in LOVE.

“What I have never been afraid of is to be a little silly,” she said, “and you can engage people that way.”

We totally agree. Being serious is rad, and so necessary sometimes, but laughing can change the world, too.

“My view is, first you get them to laugh, then you get them to listen. So I’m always game for a good joke, and I’m not so formal in this role,” she explained. “There’s very little that we can’t do that people wouldn’t appreciate.”

Michelle Obama has totally transformed the role of FLOTUS because we don’t just respect her (though we, of course, respect her like no other!), we actually really, really like her. While the likability of women in politics is always a little messy (after all, we rarely expect men to be likable to be in power), for her specific role it’s so cool to see someone we actually this is cool as hell, and would totally be friends with.

From Carpool Karaoke to her famous dance moves, FLOTUS is one rad woman who knows how to lighten things up with purpose. We remain a thousand percent on love, and will miss her forever.
