Michael Keaton Exits Spider-Man: Homecoming Talks

It seems that Michael Keaton won’t be in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ after all…

According to Deadline, the 64-year-old former-Batman won’t be taking a villainous role in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ reboot.

“Michael Keaton, who was being courted to play the villain in the pic, has fallen out of early talks and won’t be a part of the project,” they revealed.

“That had been a juicy idea as it would have put the onetime Batman star in a Spidey movie, but we’re told this is not happening and the search continues to fill the role.”

Of course, the role in question is rumoured to have been one of Spider-Man’s iconic villains, The Vulture. And considering Keaton’s stint as ‘Birdman’, that would have been quite a role.

Despite losing Keaton, the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ cast continues to grow.

Just last week, we saw Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier join the cast in unknown roles… and Zendaya is rumoured to be playing one of the film’s female leads. Not to mention that Robert Downey Jr. has now been officially confirmed to appear as Iron Man.

And he’s bound to be pleased that Marisa Tomei returns as Aunt May after an appearance alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

But who will eventually land the villainous role?

It’s still unknown whether The Vulture will really be the main villain of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’… but if he is, it’s going to take a very specific kind of actor to fill the gap left by Michael Keaton.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ heads to cinemas on 7 July 2017.
