MGM Reveal When To Expect Bond 25

After the divisive ‘Spectre,’ Bond fans have been left with a great many questions about the future of the beloved, long-running franchise.

Director Sam Mendes, having taken the helm on the 24th Bond movie following on from the massively successful ‘Skyfall,’ has confirmed that he’s done with the series - and there is ample cause to suspect this may also be true of 007 actor Daniel Craig.

But while we have no indication of where things stand on the 25th Bond, we at least have some idea of when the studio MGM expect it to hit screens.

Birth Movies Death lent an ear to a conference call with investors (which can be heard here, at the official MGM site), in which a studio executive states, “Bond is the most valuable property that we have, and it’s been on a cycle of every three-to-four years, and I anticipate it will be on that same three-to-four year cycle.”

Admittedly this isn’t a huge revelation, given ‘Spectre’ landed three years after ‘Skyfall,’ which in turn came four years after ‘Quantum of Solace’ - although studio financial troubles were largely responsible for the delay between Craig’s second and third Bond movies.

However, as this would suggest we can expect the next 007 in cinemas in either 2018 or 2019, it may be that this gives Daniel Craig the time he so desired to recuperate and stretch his wings creatively. (He is next to be seen in HBO series ‘Purity.’)

Of course, this doesn’t rule out the possibility that the studio could recast in the interim.

Either way, there is another significant change coming up for Bond behind the scenes, as ‘Spectre’ marked the end of MGM’s contract with Sony to co-distribute the films, which had been in place since Craig’s first outing, ‘Casino Royale.’

While no new co-distributor has been announced yet, MGM say “every studio is interested.”

The MGM conference call also confirmed that plans are in motion for a ‘Creed’ sequel and a third ‘Jump Street’ (reportedly a crossover with ‘Men in Black).
