We’re just one month away from Christmas day, and decorations are underway at the White House. Despite her disparaging comments about holiday decorating revealed last month in a secretly-recorded call, the First Lady was on hand to welcome White House Christmas Tree yesterday afternoon, as it was delivered by two Clydesdale horses. In previous years, Melania has transformed the White House at Christmas, including a traditional and cheerful setup last year, following backlash over her unconventional designs in 2018 and 2017, the former being a monochromatic red color palette and the latter, an offbeat all-white display that did not resemble Christmas trees in the slightest.

This holiday season marks the final Christmastime in the White House for the Trump administration, which also means this is the last time that First Lady Melania Trump will have the honor of decorating the most famous house in the United States. This year’s tree is an 18-foot Fraser fir sourced from a farm located in West Virginia, and it will soon be decorated and on full display in the Blue Room, one of three state parlors located on the first floor of the White House. This room is often used for receptions, and it still resembles its original 1792 design by Irish architect James Hoban.

Of course, the winter holiday season isn’t the only time of year when Melania Trump has tried her hand at redesigning at the People's House—she completely altered the Rose Garden this past summer, sparking outcry at her noticeably colorless design. Since President-elect Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, many have suggested and hoped that future First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will restore the famed garden to its previous Bunny Mellon-designed glory.

Only time will tell what fate has in store for the Rose Garden, but for now, we are likely just a few days away from seeing what the final Trump-era Christmas decor will look like. Hopefully, it will have more color than the current Rose Garden design, but less sinister energy than the White House decor of Christmas past.
