Proving she’s well-versed in the art of diplomatic dressing, Melania Trump flew the American flag in a red cape-sleeved gown at tonight’s final state visit dinner in London.

It’s interesting to note that the dress is by one of the Duchess of Sussex’s favourite designers, Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy - certainly one way to strengthen sartorial ties with the royal family.

The 49-year-old chose to accessorise the £5,610 sequinned gown, which is surprisingly still available to shop online, with co-ordinating shoes and loose regal curls.

Royal fans were also quick to note that the gown bears striking resemblance to the £1,095 Safiyaa cape dress the Duchess of Sussex wore in Fiji during her royal tour of Australia and New Zealand in autumn 2019.

This evening’s reciprocal dinner at Winfield House sees Donald Trump play host at the residence of American Ambassador, Woody Johnson, with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall as guests of honour.

Prince Charles chose a smart tux for the event while the Duchess of Cornwall opted for a cream-hued gown with matching pearls.

But this marks just another triumph from the First Lady who has continued to pull out all of the fashion stops during the couple’s three-day trip.

Last night, Trump chose a SS19 Christian Dior number for a Buckingham Palace banquet.

Further demonstrating her wardrobe know-how, she finished the headline-gracing ensemble with elbow-high gloves and a chic updo Her Majesty was sure to approve of.

The fresh-from-the-runway look set the sartorial tone for the evening with the likes of the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall also wearing the neutral shade.
