Meghan McCain is honoring her beloved father John McCain with a throwback photo on Instagram.

The author and co-host of ABC’s The View took to social media on Saturday to post an old photo of herself and her father, showing the duo hanging out on the side of a rapidly moving river. Sporting a white T-shirt and bright red bandana on her head, Meghan is shown standing in front of her father, who is propping his daughter up with his arm.

“I miss you so much these days Dad,” McCain captioned the photo. “You were the real deal. The last of the greats — filled with character, grit and authentic, raw patriotism. There are no more like you — at least anywhere I can see.”

Meghan’s mother, Cindy McCain, responded to her post with “I love you so much.”

Back in August, McCain took a social media break to honor the first anniversary of her father’s death. Along with a photo of the duo sitting together on a bench as they looked out over their home state of Arizona, McCain declared she would avoid social media until what would have been her father’s birthday on Aug. 29.

She resumed posting on his birthday, when she visited his grave, which was filled with flowers, memory stones and flags.

The senator passed away on Aug. 25, 2018, from glioblastoma, a brain tumor. He was 81.
