It’s been less than 24 hours since the launch of Meghan Markle’s debut fashion collection, in collaboration with Smart Works.
Yet, items from the five-piece capsule collection are already being sold on eBay for up to three times the recommended retail price.
The ‘Smart Set’ collection, released on Thursday afternoon, includes workwear staples from leading British high street brands John Lewis, Marks and Spencer and Jigsaw, as well as Meghan’s fashion designer friend, Misha Nonoo.
A classic leather tote bag from John Lewis, which retailed for £109 and sold out within hours of launch, was the most-wanted product.
The bag currently has a ‘buy it now’ price on eBay of £345, with eight people viewing the item per hour.
The most affordable item from the collection, a £19.50 shift dress from M&S, has also sold out in the long silhouette, and is now being sold on eBay for an average of £50.
To launch the collection at John Lewis on Oxford Street Meghan wore two items from the line: a pair of tailored trousers from Jigsaw (£120) and white shirt by Misha Nonoo (£125). Both these are still in stock.
However, savvy money-makers are selling the trousers on eBay with a ‘buy it now’ price of £400, or a starting bid of £249.
Similarly, the shirt has a ‘buy it now’ price of £350, with bids starting at £199.99.
