Meghan Markle has been named the most powerful dresser of 2019.

The title was given to the duchess by global fashion search platform Lyst in its Year in Fashion report, which has tracked over 200 million searches this year from 104 million shoppers to find this year’s top trends.

Meghan drove the biggest spikes in searches, sales, news coverage and social media mentions over the last 12 months, beating the likes of actor Timothee Chalamet, who secured second place, followed by Zendaya, Billie Eilish and Cardi B.

Proving that ‘The Meghan Effect’ has only increased since the former actress became a member of the Royal Family in 2018, the 38-year-old’s outfits sparked, on average, a 216% increase in searches for similar pieces in 2019.

Having guest-edited the September issue of British Vogue and created her first charity capsule collection for Smart Works, 2019 has definitely been Meghan’s most fashion-led year to date.

However, it was Meghan’s 10-day royal tour of South Africa, accompanied by Prince Harry and baby Archie, which saw the biggest sartorial spike of the year.

Meghan’s love of shirt dresses during the tour saw searches for the item grow 45% in a month.

During the 10-day tour Meghan wore four different styles of the flattering silhouette by both local South African and American designers, confirming it as her go-to look.

A grey and blue Club Monaco dress, which Meghan wore during Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor royal tour debut, also saw an impressive 570% spike in searches and sold out in less than 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a more affordable £145 J Crew skirt, which is still available to buy, saw a 102% increase in searches for the American brand.
