When Meghan Markle enjoyed a date night to the baseball yesterday evening with Prince Harry, she chose minimal jewellery for the sporting occasion.

However, one piece that did make the cut to accessorise her Stella McCartney dress and Aquazzura flats for the Boston Red Sox versus New York Yankees game in London was her stunning eternity ring.

It first made an appearance at Trooping the Colour earlier this month, when it was revealed to be a present from the Duke of Sussex, 34, for their first wedding anniversary.

But it turns out there is a much more sentimental meaning behind the beautiful £4,350 gift.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the ring pays tribute to not only the Duchess, 37, but also Harry himself, and their two-month-old son Archie.

The bespoke eternity band, created by celebrity New York-based jeweller Lorraine Schwartz had birthstones for all three members of the family added on the Duke’s orders.

There is a green emerald for baby Archie, a blue sapphire for Harry, and an olive-green peridot stone for Meghan.

It is thought sapphires protect those close to you from harm, while peridots instil power in the wearer, and emeralds are associated with rebirth and love.

At the same time, it is reported that Harry had Meghan’s £122,500 engagement ring - which features two stones belonging to Diana - resized and reset with a new diamond, rather than gold, band.

The mastermind behind the rings, Schwartz, has created pieces for a number of high-profile clients.

She is behind Beyonce and Blake Lively’s engagement rings, and also designed jewellery for Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Taylor.

The Duke’s thoughtful gift comes as it was revealed the Duchess has worn £600,000 worth of jewellery in the last 18 months.

According to The Mail on Sunday, Meghan owns 91 items of jewellery, including 35 pairs of earrings, 26 rings, 23 bracelets and seven necklaces.

This includes the £75,000 aquamarine ring - which belonged to Diana - that she wore for her wedding reception at Frogmore House last year.
